High in the rich volcanic mountains of Nicaragua, at the headwaters of the Coco River, lies one of the most famous coffee growing regions of the world. Here, under the canopy of mahogany and other hardwood trees, farmers cultivate organic beans full of flavor, free of chemicals, and in an environmentally friendly manner.
It is a natural to combine exquisite flavor of these beans with a righteous cause- educating children in one of the most remote corners of the Western Hemisphere.
Downriver, Project Ezra is providing primary education for over 2300 Miskito Indian children in 14 villages scattered along the remote lower Coco River. This project, founded in 1986 by Seek The Lamb, has educated thousands of Miskito youths in an area that is truly Fourth World (no electricity, running water, or roads- travel is by foot or dugout canoe!).
Today, a majority of Project Ezra’s 59 teachers are former Project Ezra first grade students.
We pay the farmers upriver a fair price for their beans, and take the profits from each bag of Rio Coco Bean Coffee to pay teacher salaries, buy school supplies, and provide logistical support for Project Ezra schools downriver.
In February, we purchased our own roaster which is now set up and operating in Vero Beach Florida. This enables us to serve the freshest coffee!
We encourage you to doubly enjoy each cup of Rio Coco Bean coffee, knowing that with each sip, more Miskito Indian children are being educated each day.
